Hi! I’m Jenni. I grew up north of La Ronge, Sask. at Lamp Lake. My first food business was a hamburger stand called Flight Delight two friends and I started at the La Ronge Airport when we were 14. We borrowed a trailer from the Kikinahk Friendship Centre and served burgers, chips, and drinks to people coming and going from all over the north. I guess today that would be called a Food Truck! Since then, I’ve cooked for as a nanny in the Rocky Mountains, sold soup and baking at the Prince Albert Farmer’s Market with my baby on my back, owned and operated a local foods restaurant called New Ground Café in Birch Hills, Sask. (2005-2012), catered as Chef Jenni all over the province (2012-2018) and became the first female Executive Chef at Wanuskewin in 2019. Now I’m putting all those pieces together as a Culinary Consultant, creating recipes and immersive experiences featuring Saskatchewan ingredients. Wild rice is one of my favourite ingredients to work with. I appreciate the effort and care that goes into harvesting and processing this nutrient rich and delicious product. To me, it tastes the way a northern lake smells; fresh and clean and, well, a bit wild! Join me as I share my favourite wild rice recipes. We’ll bake, slow cook, stir fry and even pop our way through dishes that I hope you love as much as I do!
